Juniors review - fine win sees Brighton's under-16 girls through to third round

Burgess Hill Under-16 Girls 1
BHHC Cormorants 4

Simon Healey reports: “The Cormorants progressed to the third round of the cup with an excellent, battling performance at the Triangle. Despite some poor timekeeping, we fielded a very strong 13 players, and started strongly - totally dominating the first 20 minutes. The Burgess Hill keeper made a string of excellent saves but, eventually, Imogen put us ahead from Elsie’s assist.

1-0 could and should have been plenty more, but eventually Burgess Hill found their shape and came into the game more towards the end of the half. However we remained solid at the back and Ivy saved well on two occasions.

The second half again saw Brighton dominate, playing some excellent aggressive hockey. A great run and shot from Sorrel and a scramble from Poppy made it 3-0. Burgess Hill did not give up and we conceded a goal from a flick and a couple of green cards in the last 10 minutes. This led to a nervy finish, until another Sorrel strike settled the tie. Overall an excellent, battling performance - I have high hopes for the rest of the season.

MoMs were Sorrel and Elsie, but this was a proper team effort."
