Get fit for the new season, have fun with fellow members and help raise the club's profile

Fancy staying fit by taking part in one or all of four Brighton & Hove Hockey Club 'parkrun takeovers’ in the city in August? Then line up for a Saturday morning 5km fun run in your club shirt (home or away) with fellow BHHC members.

The first one is on August 10 in East Brighton; the second on Hove Promenade on August 17; the third in Preston Park on August 24 and the last one on August 31 in Hove Park. All BHHC players, supporters, umpires and parents of all ages are welcome.

Andrew Bromley, who started the initiative in 2018, says: "The parkrun is a 5k fun run that loads of BHHC members do already; however it would be great to co-ordinate a few days and publicise the club some more. Parkruns are a completely free event and allow all standards of competitors to enjoy the 5k route together!"

It will also help with pre-season fitness or to run off any summer holiday excesses and get club members together in a fun environment. What's more it is free to enter - all you have to do is register if you haven't already.

James Millar has taken over the 'parkrun takeover' organisation this summer and is asking all BHHC members (all ages, playing and non-playing) to turn up in their home or away BHHC club shirt. He suggests BHHC runners should meet at 8.45am before the race and then get together for post-run coffee and cake, a chat with fellow members and other runners to raise the profile of the club.

At the Hove Promenade parkrun in 2018 BHHC members got a shout out from the MC and Izzy Dodds managed to recruit two new members during the race!

Parkrun is a series of 5km runs held on Saturday mornings (starting at 9am) in areas of open space around the UK. They are open to all, free, and are safe and easy to take part in. To register with parkrun UK is free and can be done by visiting www.parkrun.org.uk
