Ali Wheatley and Joey Bryant, who play for Brighton & Hove HC women's 2nd Xl, have both recently gained places in England Masters' squads. Ali has reconfirmed her place in the Over-55s squad and will play the Home Nations Championship in Glasgow in June and the European Cup in Valencia in July.
Joey has also been selected for both championships and will travel to Swansea for the Four Nations in May and Nottingham for the European Cup in July.
Joey says: " I'm over the moon to have been selected for the Over-40 England Masters squad. I still can't quite believe it and I have to keep reading the official letter! I've been selected for both summer championships and I'm so excited to put that shirt on and play for my country. I've had lots of encouragement from my family and my Brighton hockey team mates (Ali) to go for it and here we are! The trials were tough and have been on going since November last year and the standard was high so I'm delighted! Bring it on!"
Ali - pictured above with Joey - adds: "I'm absolutely delighted I'm going to be representing my country again. The competition was tough this year as some very strong players came up into the age group - the hill sprints have paid off! I'm so very happy for Joey; she has worked really hard for months and so thoroughly deserves to be wearing the three lions shirt. It's wonderful to have another Over-35 BHHC player performing at international level and I'm still trying hard to encourage more Over-35 players to get involved in Masters hockey - at all levels.
"We have myself, Joey, Diva and Ange representing the South East at regionals in a couple of weeks time and I'm hoping next season sees even more Over-35 players getting involved in their age group."
With Dina Finn away in Aachen, Germany, for a four nations tournament with the Ireland under-16 girls at Easter - the second year running she has been selected - BHHC's women are certainly making their mark.
